BOTTOM DRAINS, LINER AND
Now that all the pool blockwork was complete, my attention was directed at the pool base. Firstly two bottom drains were installed and connecting 4" soil pipe was put in trenches and directed to where the double filter bay was to be constructed, Going under the end wall then 90 degree bend brought the two pipes up through what would become the filter bay floor. With these installed the base of the pool was once again flattened and levelled.
Wooden pegs were driven into the base and a long spirit level used to level them all off then boards were added dividing the base into four sections. Again the trusty concret mixer was employed to mix concrete which was then barrowed to the pool and poured down a plywood slope into the base of the pool then leveled and smoothed with a float between the pegged boards.
While building the end wall, a Kokney Koi wide mouth skimmer unit was bricked into the blockwork at a suitable height to ensure the removal of floating debris'
When once the base was finished and cured, the pool was checked for any lumps & bumps which were removed with the grinder then finally brushed and cleaned out.
4" x 2" timber was cut to go round the top edge which was to be used to trap the top flange on the box welded liner, but for now would be used to hold the underliner in place. The underliner was dropped in the pool and unrolled then cut to size and finally had the timber lengths laid on top of it to hold it down.
Next, with the help of my wife, the box welded liner was lowered into the bottom of the pool and opened out. With much pulling and shuffleing we managed to get it into the correct position, then it was just a case of raising the sides and lining up the corners. By placing 'g' clamps all around the tops of the pool walls and the liner we were able to remove all the creases and wrinkles.
With the liner now in place the flanges and top pipes of the bottom drains were fitted. Cutting the liner round the inside of the drains was quite stomach turning, knowing how much the liner had cost. With the bottom drains fitted, sealed and flanges bolted down I turned my attention to the two round air stones I was fitting. One on top of each bottom drain with the piope work running through plastic conduit back to the filters bay
